IBS Awareness Month
Do you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome? What you need to know.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a fairly common disease that strikes anywhere between 10 – 15% of the general population so there is no need to feel like you’re suffering alone.
The month of April is recognised as IBS awareness month focused on IBS diagnosis, treatment and quality of life issues.
What you need to know about IBS: IBS is a disease that affects the digestive system. The disease generally causes stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation and can be ongoing for weeks, months or longer. The exact cause for this condition is unknown but research is ongoing.
How can you prevent IBS?
- Make sure the majority of food eaten is fresh or homemade.
- Monitor what you eat and keep a diary record to understand what triggers symptoms.
- Take probiotics to help with the overall health of your digestive system.
- Avoid eating unhealthy processed foods.
- Reduce or avoid alcohol or carbonated drinks.
- Don’t eat too quickly or have too much delay between meals.
