World Asthma Day

World Asthma Day

World Asthma Day is run by the Global Initiative for Asthma. It is a day set aside to raise awareness and understanding of the condition and encourages better access to care and treatment for those who are asthmatic. There are a number of gaps in asthma care which require intervention in order to reduce preventable suffering as well as the costs incurred by treating uncontrolled asthma. That’s why this year’s theme for World Asthma Day is ‘Closing Gaps in Asthma Care’.

Asthma is a disease which affects the lungs causing wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and coughing. Asthma has no cure but it is possible to manage it to reduce and prevent asthma attacks, also called episodes or exacerbations.
