What is Lupus?

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs). In lupus, something goes wrong with the immune system and it becomes unable to tell the difference between foreign invaders and the body’s healthy tissues so the antibodies produced by the immune system attack and destroys the healthy tissues of the body causing inflammation, pain, and damage in various parts of the body. Lupus affects mostly women of childbearing age, however, men, children, and teenagers develop lupus, too.

Symptoms of Lupus

People with lupus can experience significant symptoms like pain, extreme fatigue, hair loss, cognitive issues, and physical impairments that affect every facet of their lives. Many suffer from cardiovascular disease, strokes, disfiguring rashes, and painful joints and for others, there may be no visible symptoms.
